The Shimmering Extraordinary
Madeline shares her story with disability and neurological recovery, both as a dancer and choreographer in this work. Filmed at the beautiful Tate Modern. Directed by Emmy-Award nominated director Fx Goby. They explore trauma, but showcase the positivity and strength of overcoming. The resilience and strength, as well as powerful grit. Madeline discussing her sudden neurological attack and how within twenty-four hours her body changed. The reality of disability being one day more visible or invisible, but how there is not always a clear answer. However, through recovery she found a new love and appreciation for what dance and creating meant to her and how we must celebrate our differences.
This video is part of a mini-series of six new short dance films. Commissioned as part of Scottish Ballet's Safe to Be Me™ Festival 2021, a digital festival of dance that celebrates diversity and uniqueness. The films are inspired by the programme’s themes of acceptance, identity, and respect. It was produced by Nexus Studios and presented by Nowness.
